Dementia Care For America's Heroes
America’s population of elderly veterans is now the largest in history. Ten million veterans are now 65 years or older. Two million are 85 years of age or older. The demand for quality care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia is soaring. Partnerships for Health, the Armed Forces Veterans Homes Foundation and the National Association of State Veterans Homes are arming caregivers with the information and skills needed to bring culture change to dementia care.
Partnerships for Health presents award-winning Occupational Therapist and Dementia Care Specialist, Heather McKay, providing evidence-based information with an interactive, fun style that connects to professionals and family caregivers struggling with the everyday challenges of caring for people with dementia. This training is designed to enhance caregiver’s understanding of dementia, its symptoms, common behaviors associated with cognitive loss and behavioral interventions to provide the highest quality care for people with dementia. Caregivers will learn strategies and practical skills that they can apply immediately to improve interactions and communication with people who have dementia as well as reduce their own risk of on-the-job injuries.
“As the former Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs and a long-time nursing home administrator, I’m sure you will find Ms. McKay’s training to be on the mark. Her video will give your medical and nursing services staff many new ideas and perspectives.”
Phillip Driskill, Life Member
National Association of State Veterans Homes
